The self assessment tool is an online form that highlights three key competencies (ICC, PTCI and GCC – see details below) essential for future English teachers. The form comprises questions for each competence. Once all the questions in each of the three sections have been answered, the tool will provide you with a score to help you assess where you are at present in relation to each of the three competencies. You will be able to complete the form as many times as you might like.
Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) enables teachers to communicate effectively in diverse cultural settings. It combines linguistic skills with cultural awareness, helping educators bridge cultural gaps and foster meaningful connections. With ICC, teachers can better engage with students, parents, and colleagues from different backgrounds, promoting mutual understanding and empathy in multicultural environments.
Professional Teacher Competence for Internationalisation (PTCI) equips teachers with the skills to adapt pedagogy for global classrooms. It includes modifying teaching methods, materials, and assessments for diverse international settings. This competence helps educators demonstrate professional standards while fostering inclusive, globally-minded education systems.
Global Civic Competence (GCC) cultivates civic engagement and global citizenship in education. Teachers with GCC promote values like social justice, sustainability, and ethics while preparing students to address worldwide challenges. This competence blends awareness of global issues with practical strategies to foster responsible global citizens.
